Clients & Projects - Past & Present

Over the years, HMU has produced a multitude of multimedia and internet products for some high-profile clients, museums and Auckland University. These range from simple 'enhanced' audio CDs to custom internet image databases. Below is a varied selection of some of these clients and projects.

Websites change their look relatively quickly, so clicking on the images below will show how the website looked at the time HMU worked on them and the links underneath lead to the current website.

WebLogix

WebLogix / Irongate is Australasia's leading business internet solution provider and has a large client base. HMU worked with them to provide better design and smoother users experiences for their clients. A major client is Air New Zealand for whom we developed a multimedia training application.

Mike Loder

NZ comedian, commentator and presenter Mike Loder wanted a new web site and has been impressed with HMU's work for him in the past. The challenge was to create a web site containing all the information he needs to present without getting too cluttered. And deal with a large personality.

Timeframes - The National Library of New Zealand

Similar to Te Papa's image search system, HMU designed the original Timeframes, a publicly available web site for searching and retrieving images from the library's expanding collection of archived scanned images. The simple search system the public sees is the front-end of a more sophisticated search and archive system used internally by the library's staff.

Mike Loder - Live at the Covert - Stingray

The world's first enhanced comedy CD was produced for well known New Zealand comedian Mike Loder. Including videos, the complete audio from one show, and other eccentric media, this project was tailored to Mike's particular sense of humour.

Mike liked the CD and work so much that he commissioned HMU to produce his follow-up CD "Stingray".

Holy Women - Dance Tutor CD

In conjunction with Susan Jordan (a dance tutor with the Dance Studies Department at The University of Auckland) and her dancers, we produced an experimental dance tutor CD for the dance "Holy Women" to investigate whether dancers actually need a human mentor to teach them a new dance. The final CD used split-screen video and expanded key dance points to teach the students.

Sanctuary in the Sea

Bill Ballantine (Goldman Environmental Prize winner) from Auckland University's Leigh Laboratory and HMU produced an information web site which included an online simulator to illustrate in simple terms how marine reserves are beneficial to fish populations. The web site has since been disabled but you can still try the simulator (Adobe/Macromedia Shockwave Player required).

A number of web-based interactive modules have been created to illustrate principles of statistic and physics. These have also been used as part of the University of Cambridge's open learning exam system.

MOSAICA

MOSAICA is a little shop with a big personality, providing equipment and training in the art of making mosaics. The old website was tired and dated, so they wanted a completely new, fun and friendly look. Still a work in progress, the online shop has yet to be finished.

Eye of the Storm Knives

You get to produce some websites for unusual products in this business. Eye of the Storm is a site promoting a new line of knives, designed by entrepreneur Mike Loder. Given the product, he didn't want the website to be 'scary', so we went for a high-tech, clean look.

Te Papa - The Museum of New Zealand

Te Papa is New Zealand's largest museum and has significant behind-the-scenes image & media storage requirements. We deisgned and project managed the creation of their image archiving database, which was based on the Hyperwave CMS system. The National Maritime Museum

A web site for the National Maritime Museum in Auckland was hosted at Auckland University for a period, before being moved to their own site. It has since been redeveloped by others and is entirely Flash based, which is unfortunate.
